WEANING OFF COMPLETELY:
POINTS TO BE CONSIDERED
AGE: 12 MONTHS
1 This is the stage when you stop feeding baby during the nights as well
2 Engage baby in some play activities at the time of feeding
3 Avoid any feeding positions- it can make baby get-ready for a feed.
4 Talk to baby. Tell stories about why you can't feed him any more (Eg. you are a grown up boy, why do you want mother to feed when you can eat food well etc.)
5 Do not wean baby when going through some other major change in life (eg. starting day-care)
6 Ensure that you make baby eat well before sleeping- baby's favourite food could be of great help till the time baby is off breast milk completely
7 Be determined. Do not feed on one day, and giving up on the next. This could make it difficult for you to stop hand feeding baby.
8 Thumb-sucking or biting on the blanket is a normal coping mechanism displayed by baby. Do not worry too much about this.
